Marine biology – school days

Over the course of these two weeks each classmate has worked on a research project with a group and presented an article they used in their research. Today I learned how well artificial reefs are doing. I used to think only real reefs would hold a lot of biodiversity, but one of the groups showed us data that supported...

Organism

The organism I learned about was the nurse shark. Nurse sharks are located in the Caribbean, they can grow to be over 9 feet in length, and weigh over 300 lbs. They are very docile animals. They have thousands of tiny razor sharp teeth. I would love to see a nurse shark in the BVI.

Virgin Gorda: Day 3

Today was the most exhausting but better yet exciting day of the trip so far. I woke up at 8am only to find myself throwing on my super exotic swimsuit. By 8:30am, our taxi driver Glen came by to take us to breakfast at the marina. For breakfast, I helped myself to some pineapple and then topped it off...

The RMS Rhone

This morning I woke up early and went for a run. It was good, and I almost got attacked by an angry momma chicken. Then everyone else woke up and we left for the marina at about 8:15. At the marina, we had breakfast and I ate some delicious banana bread. From there, we went straight to the wreck...

Day 1 Underwater Exploration with Tanner

After about 4 solid hours of sleep, me, Richard, and Drew woke to an annoying alarm clock blaring in our ears. No, these weren't just any alarm clocks, these were roosters, cock-a-doodle-doing louder than any alarm I've heard in a while. Regardless of the wake-up call at 6:40, we were still excited to see a "sunnier" side of the...

Day2-BVI-kilpatrick

Caleb Kilpatrick July 5th 2012 Day 2 bvi The day began nicely, up without the alarm i got dressed with some of the clothes I had left out to dry the night before. It would have gone better had it not rained the night before, these rain storms seem to very frequent.... I wonder if its because of the humidity or if...

Day 6 in BVI “The Baths”

Today Cedar cabin was able to wake up at a solid 7:40 and eat a breakfast provided by our dive instructor Casey right at the Guavaberry Resort where our marine bio group is stating. Our fresh and relaxing start however was short lived. We immediately left the resort as a group to our community service site about half a...

Ship Dive

On the 3rd day, I woke up, got dressed and went down to the place where we waited for the truck to pick us up. The truck came after about 5 minutes. The truck took us to the harbor where we ate breakfast, which consisted of muffins, banana bread, fruit, and eggs. After breakfast, we hopped on the boat...

Bvi day 1

My first day down in the BVI started out with a nice surprise by waking up at 6 am to a bunch of roosters. Next we assembled all of our gear and then headed down to the front entrance of the resort where we were meet by our taxi. We then took this down to a hotel/resort area were...
