The RMS Rhone

This morning I woke up early and went for a run. It was good, and I almost got attacked by an angry momma chicken. Then everyone else woke up and we left for the marina at about 8:15. At the marina, we had breakfast and I ate some delicious banana bread. From there, we went straight to the wreck of the RMS Rhone, which is an old ship that wrecked on October 29, 1867. The Rhone is only one of two ships that was publicized as unsinkable. The other “unsinkable” ship was the Titanic. Of approximately 300 people, only 23 survived, 22 of which were crew members. On our first dive, we swam around the bow. We saw the keel, the foremast, and we swam through the first and second stories of the bow. There were tons of growth and large fish. After seeing the bow, we had to go to the surface and switch to a fresh tank. On our second tank, we went and saw the stern. We saw the 15 foot propeller, the lucky port hole #26 where the lone passenger survivor was staying, and the aft mast. After seeing the Rhone, we went to Cooper Island and learned how the manager effectively runs his eco-friendly resort. After that, we snorkeled off of the coast of Cooper Island where I saw an Eagle Ray and a Barracuda. After snorkeling, we went back to the marina on Virgin Gorda and got ready for dinner. We ate down by the marina and I had quality bonding time with my Jesuit brothers. It was a good day, and it marks the halfway point of the trip.
