Day 7 is out of the picture and only 3 more days await until our class sessions come to an end. Many things occurred today. For the beginning of class we discussed two articles. The first was about parrot fish and their effect on coral, which in my opinion I thought that the results were insignificant mainly because they discovered little. However my point of view was changed when it was brought to my attention that even though these experiments may have little effect. In reality, they may eventually lead to more important findings in the future.
The second article presented was over the lionfish invasion. From this discussion I knew this overpopulation was causing damage, but I didn’t know that the damage it can leave is dentrimental to other species. Well it is because it throws off the ecosystems. There are too many lionfish and few of its predators.
For the final portion of our class revolved around corralation. A group in-class project was assigned, in which we were supposed to design a plan to reintroduce “Species X” into the ocean, with only one larvae left! Through this activity I learned a deeper understanding of coral and how to better maintain this magnicent species. One of my group mates pointed out that coral grows better around ocean volcanic areas such as hawaii, this had to be the most interesting fact I learned today.
