Marine Biology Day 13

0

Another day has gone by, and today marks the half way point of the week. The day started as usual, the daily routine, waking up at 8:00, taking a shower, going out front by 8:30 and than hopping on to speedy’s to take us to the Ole’ Yard Village. We ate breakfast and then Casey began to teach us about transection. Transection is when you count and record the life present in coral reef’s every 20 meters than skip every 5 meters in between.

When Casey was finished with her lesson we got ready to depart for Savannah’s Bay. When we arrived we quickly did a practice with transecting lines on the shore, this helped me a ton. When we finished, lunch was served. After lunch, we were given the opportunity to snorkel. I saw alot of fish, crusteceans, and coral, it was a beautiful scene. I managed to take many neat pictures with my friends, Alec Sims and Alec Sellick. We were called back to shore, Sam and Casey had gathered some marine life they found while snorkeling such as urchins, arrow crabs, a dead jellyfish, and fish. I was given the opportunity to hold a sea urchin and it’s suction cup feet felt very funny on my hand. This left 20 minutes for us to rome around until the cab came, I cleaned off.

We then boarded Speedy’s to Guava Berry Resort and had an hour of break, I used it to work on my homework. At 3:15 we all gathered up front to walk to the Bath’s. When we arrived at the Bath’s entrance we began to climb the rocks it contained to reach our destination, Devil’s Bay. It was a very adventurous hike and very bumpy, one could say “tiresome,” but it was worth the hike when we enjoyed ourselves at the very relaxing bay.

We then returned to Guava Berry Resort, I took this time to rest. At 6:30 we were taken to dinner at the Turtles Bath buffet, where we had mexican food. It was very delicious. When we finished dinner we went to this hut at the marina where a DJ was playing music. We hung out there until 8:30 we left back for Guava Berry resort. This concludes day 13, it was a great day for me.
