The end of the BVI is coming close, we only have one more day left. Once again at 8:30 we gathered to go to breakfast, however today we went straight to the marina. We had breakfast and than a couple minutes to go to the dive shop. It was time to board the boat and we were psyched. We prepared our equipment while the boat was driving to the location. On the way there I got sea sick. Our first destination was to the wreck of the Rhone. This ship was sunk by a hurricane 2 years after it was made in 1865. The wreck was a very exotic place to dive at because of all the huge fish and great numbers living there. The reason behind this is that since the wreck is a national park, there is a restriction on fishing. This gives fish a greater chance of survival.
After the Rhone, we went to Chromis Reef. This was the longer of the two dives for our group, Sam’s group. This dive served mainly as a practice for transection, we were supposed to count the fishes we saw around the area. It was a great dive and a very diverse one as well.
Next we went to Cooper’s Island for lunch. We had fish sticks with fries, it was quality sea food. I learned that this island was home to only 17 people. After lunch we boarded the boats and drove a half mile away to retreat the beach. We geared up and snorkeled. This was the highlight of my day. I saw a spotted eagle ray, Sam said it is rarer than a shark, a school of southern stingray, 2 giant barracudas, a huge school of blue tangs, and gardener eels. When I neared the boat I saw Casey handing Andrew something, I than realized it was a lion fish. Mr. Kirby had found it!! When we reached shore Jeff dissected the lionfish skillfully. It was a very fruitful dissection.
Our taxi cab arrived and we left for Guava Berry Resort. When we arrived I had 1 hour and 30 minutes to relax and start importing pictures on to my iPad. At 6:15 we departed to mad dogs for dinner, we had Mexican buffet which was delicious. Yesterday was actually Caribbean food. We ate, took pictures, than we just hung out. We than walked back to Guava Berry and started to right our blog. This concludes day 14 and the fourth day at BVI, I am excited for transecting tomorrow.
