The day had started like any other, hot and humid; I stood on the balcony of my house at 5:30 gazing at the world before my feet. Why am I so different? It came to me that the only way to find meaning in my life was to just live it. The sun began to creep over my village like a black cat in an alley way.
Hours later class started, I looked around and realized that the one place where I can truly be myself is in this marine biology class. So when class started I was agile, ready to learn.
Class began with a presentation from two groups, the first one wasn’t to interesting but I somewhat enjoyed the second one. The second one talked about mollusks, and the estimated unknown species. I found this interesting that most of the species was unknown. Until now I previously thought that the Earth’s frontier had been completely explored. So it made me happy that I knew people saved some of the earth for the rest of us.
After these presentations we went over our notes for today and tomorrow, the notes were very brief so I couldn’t see the bigger picture yet, all I know is that we talked about interesting marine animals like sponges and octopuses and even flat worms. What I found to be most interesting was that sea sponges and cucumbers are considered to be in the animal kingdom, I honestly though they were just soft coral structures.
After we did our notes we went on to dissect a sea star and a squid, of the town the squid was much more interesting. I had no idea how weird the squids anatomy was. The coolest part about it was the pen and the Inc sac, that blew my mind. I also think that dissecting the squid was more relevant to marine biology because of it’s unique abilities.
