Today was by far the most hands on and exciting day of class we have had yet. We started the class off by listening to two groups present their individual articles that they researched and discussed. We immediately transitioned into a class discussion on marine and non-marine invertebrates. It was pretty interesting to learn more about the animals that I recall learning about in middle school. The discussion fits into the marine biology theme perfectly because a huge section of marine biology is the actual marine life. Learning about cnidarians and worms may seem like a small part of biology, but humans can learn so much from these animals. Doctor Gruninger earned a PHD from studying worms and their sexual interactions… After the invertebrate discussion, we went into the lab to dissect two invertebrates. We dissected a star fish and a squid. It was really cool, and it’s pretty safe to say that I was the best dissector in the class (of course). Learning about what makes up the animals was awesome and very relevant to the class because marine biologists all around the world try to learn more about animals throu dissection. Today was a great day of learning.
