Marine Bio Day 3

0

What another exciting day in marine biology! Today we learned about Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics. These interesting concepts show us how how mountain ranges were formed, but also why the continents are where they are today. About 255 million years ago there was a huge land mass called Pangea. All the continents were mashed together until they were pulled apart by a process known as continental drift. These topics go hand in hand with marine biology because through subduction (when one plate goes under the other) oceans are shrinking and affecting the underwater marine life. In addition, life may have first been formed in the ocean so it is very important to study sea floor spreading and other concepts to know more about the marine life and how it originated and what it will be like in the future.
