Second day of BVI – David Smith

Today I slept much bettere than yesterday. I slept so well, in fact, that me and my room had to be woken up by Doc, who then told us we had fifteen minutes to get down to the group. We got dressed quicklyand ran down to meet the bus/cab. We started the day with a “classroom” lecture about Project Aware, which was taught by Sam. She told us about different things that could harm the reefs (which are many), as well as things thqt are helpful, which mainly consist of not doing anything harmful. Fish can help the reef though. We learned that, even though parrotfish eat the reefs, they help by promoting new growth. Then Andrew started talking about fish identification, which was really cool. Then it was time to go dive.

Today’s dive was actually at a reef. We started off by doing a few more skills, which included hovering upside down, which I’ve actually become pretty good at. We saw an ocean triggerfish, which looked huge, and was apparently a very rare spot, so I was really happy. There wasn’t one thing that stood out, but it was amazing. There were so many fish that my head couldn’t take it all in. It was also a lot less colorful than I was expecting, but it was still really, really cool. We went up, and went in for the day. Tomorrow, we’re not diving, but we are doing a few snorkle trips.
