Day one of BVI – David Smith

2

Yesterday was a long, long day that involed a sprint to the gate, a flight next to a kid who didn’t understand the idea of personal space, and an epic boat ride to the island with the lightning blinding us.

Today was just as long, but just as fun. My day started at four fourty five with a rooster crowing outside my window. After what felt like hours of trying to get back to sleep, I gave up and sat on the porch reading while the sun rose. At eight, we went to a hotel and met with our teachers again. We started talking about what to expect for this week. We also talked about why we were there, and I think I won a few brownie points with Casey when I said that I think I’m going to be a marine biologist. We then subtly went over the skills of the PADI PBP certification. We also talked about lionfish saftey. Then we got to go diving!

We got into our boats, and before we went off to the cove, we went over boat safety. We prepared our gear, under supervision, and then went on our way. We buddied up, and went diving. We did the boring skill checks that I though I was done with after my certification class, and then we went exploring. Right away we saw a southern stingray feeding on something. If looked cool, but we all stayed a safe distance away. We kept swimming and found a hole that our instructor knew was home to a big octopus. I’m really excited for when we actually dive on a reef, instean of the sandy bottom.

Oh, and happy fourth.
