Day Nine – Colin Taylor

Hello again! It’s the night time blogger and today after actually reading the articles we had a well lead discussion about the use of ecolocation by porpoises. The bulk of that conversatin consisted of discussing the methodology. The experiment used trained dolphins, so we discussed how that would effect the results compared to testing dolphins born and raised in the wild. After that we discussed the second article which had quite scientifically sound methodology. They proved that coral is quite delicate in that it must stay at a specific temperature to survive (roughly 29 degrees Celsius). They tested the same coral in three different temperatures, and of course the higher the temperature, the quicker it died. But probably the most fun part of the day was cutting open the head of the dogfish shark. The adult in me said wooow, this is quite intriguing! And the five year old in me said “WOAH COOOOL BRAINS!!!!” regardless, the week is coming to a close and the trip to the islands is growing ever closer. I am quite excited. Have a great evening!
