Day 9 – Tying up the Loose Ends

0

We began today by completing our dissection of the Dogfish Shark. We examined the nervous system of the shark, which was very interesting. The most surprising thing about the shark was the size of it’s brain. The shark is about as long as an arm length, yet its brain is about the size of grape.

We then discussed two articles, one on dolphin echolocation and the other on how coral growth is affected by rising water temperatures. The dolphin echolocation article was very interesting, describing how dolphins use sonar to locate their prey. As a part of the experiment, they even covered their eyes and found that the dolphins only took slightly longer to locate their prey. The coral growth article was lengthy, but addressed a general problem in the ocean: consistently rising water temperatures.
