At the beginning of the third day, I enjoyed eggs for the first time in a few days. The first dive of the day was at Great Dogs island. Our habitat that we roped off consisted of one stoplight parrotfish, a few rainbow parrotfish, and one or two rainbow parrotfish that presented me with some of the most vivid colors I’ve ever seen. There were plenty of squirrel fish and other types that constantly darted in and out of the square. The second dive at Broncos Billy had about 20 parrotfish, 10 blue head wrasse, 20 yellow head wrasse, and a few damselfish. Fish we bumping into each other much like other drivers in real life would. One fish chased the other fish out of its hole repeatedly. After surfacing, we headed back to the island, and we played beach games. Our team ultimately got last, but it is the effort that counts because no one really won anything, so “ha.” That night, after engorging on three hamburgers, lasagna, and a muffin, I prepared to hunker down in my cabin for the night, but we had a night dive! I saw four little squids within five minutes of the dive, plenty of sea urchins, a lobster with dots all over, and finally an octopus that was scared out of its mind which is understandable because 23 people were shining high beam flashlights at it. Frankly, that would freak out anyone, and it’s camouflage didn’t work which would scare me too if I couldn’t hide from my predators. So today I learned that having a regulator when you dive is a good idea, don’t provoke sharks, flashlights hurt when shined in your eyes, and getting sand in your boot is very uncomfortable. Tomorrow, we will attempt to catch turtles and also look at things without a spine. And on that bombshell… Robby Freimuth signing off.
