Day 7- Save the Coral!

0

On the seventh day of Marine Biology, I learned just how fun and insightful the class could be without really going to the real hands-on stuff. We started off with the 2nd round of the class led article discussions. Andrew and Colin started things off by talking about their article concerning how invasive species of Parrotfish contribute to the coral disappearance when they take bites off of it. Following them were Matt and Alec discussing the article about invasive lionfish species and their mass effect on areas where they have no natural predators. These were very interesting and insightful, especially the second one because that is a main area of concern we will be addressing at BVI. For bascially the rest of class we split into groups of four and made plans to introduce into the ocean envirionment and conserve the hypothetically last remaning larva of coral species X. This activity was very enjoyable and I gained a lot of field knolwedge about how coral operates biologically. There was also a lot lf heated debate between our different groups on the pros and cons of how one should go about doing this and the certain risks involved. Pretty productive day

Four more days until BVI!
