Today’s class seemed to fly by because we broke our usual routine of taking notes for most of class. We listened to a couple of presentations about different parts of marine biology, one being the effect butterflyfish have on coral reefs. We learned about different kinds of invertebrates, including starfish and squids. Speaking of starfish and squids, we dissected one of each today during class too! This was quite an experience that filled the air with the scent of knowledge and dead fish. Yummy! Anyways, my partner, Sean Tomlinson, and I shared the dissection of a squid and we were able to remove the part of the squid that spits out ink and the part of the body called the pen. Using these two objects we were able to write, but it was definietly no BIC ball point pen. Overall today, I feel as though seeing marine life, not necessarily in action, but up close in personal, tought me more than I realized I was learning.
