The 6th Day

Today began listening to Kells and Alec talk about the coral consumption by butterfly fish. That didn’t interest me very much, and, as doc Gruninger pointed out, the article had no purpose. The next presentation, by Paul and nick, concerned mollusks, and in my opinion was much more interesting. They discussed the purpose of mollusks and estimates on the amount of unknown species. This interested me because I previously knew very little on that subject. After that presentation we began a discussion on invertebrates. The function of the sponges and the defense mechanisms of sea cucumbers were especially interesting. I am now aware that it is possible for an animal to it’s organs and still live. After this we went to the lab. My time in the lab started with a bisection of a starfish. Although this was very boring, we soon began dissecting a squid. The squid was very complex (at least compared to a starfish) and I enjoyed finding several things including the Inc sac and the pen.
