Today started like all the others… Breakfast then class at the yellow hotel. Today class began with Casey. We watched a video on the reef check organization. This is an international volunteer organization that surveys the reefs. Because we will be performing a reef check on Friday, she described how to lay down transecting lines and even provided a demonstration. With a transecting line on the floor of the room we practiced with our partners and plastic fish. Even though they were fake fish, I got to admit…. I was a pro. After this we left for the beach at savannah bay to practice the laying transecting and talk about how to count. Pretty soon lunch was ready and we sat to eat on the beach. We hopped in the water to snorkel and began our expedition in the sea. We ended up seeing several things including countless sea urchins, angel fish, snappers, trumpetfish and goat fish. While swimming I spotted something shiny in my peripherals. I looked down and saw none other than a dirty beer can. Disgust swept through me, but I held back my tears and hurried to the bottom to save countless animals by removing this obstruction. Feeling on top of the world, I hopped in the taxi to head over to the baths. My moment of glory was short lived however when I realized that I had left not one, but two things back on the beach…. It was devastating. An hour later the baths appeared on our agenda and I hobbled down the street to the entrance. After a long trek down the rough trail I made it to the bottom with no new injuries. The baths were amazing… Giant granite boulders stacked one on top of the other like marbles of the gods. Around 4:30 we made it back to the hotel and chilled for 2 hours until it was time for dinner. We had a Mexican buffet at B&T before going to the dance floor to listen to music. The night was complete after the great performance by Sam and Connor.
