Today in class we discussed the different zones of the ocean and different types of plankton. First there are the benthic zones. The benthic zone consists of everything on the ocean floor. It is divided into sub zones: the Superalittoral, the littoral, the sublittoral and the deep ocean. The next zone is the palegic zone. This is composed of the open water, and both horizontal and vertical zones. The neritic zone contains 90% of marine life. We also discussed plankton, organisms that depend on the currents to move. There are zooplankton, meroplankton, phytoplankton and holoplankton. This relates to marine biology because plankton are marine life itself and because as I said before the majority of marine life resides in the neurotic and other zones.
