Today in class we discussed plates and their effect on the earth. The earth consists of layers including the inner and outer cores, the mantle and the crust. The inner core is solid and mostly iron. The outer core is iron as well however is free flowing. Together these cause the earth’s magnetic fields. Above is the mantle and the oceanic and continental crusts respectively. Plate tectonics applies to marine biology because it is used to understand the reasons for the geology in the ocean.
