Day 4

0

Day 4 of 10 and we’re almost halfway through the in class portion of the class! It’s weird to think that in about a week, I will already be packing for the trip to the BVI. Today we learned about tides, waves, and currents. Finally, I see the direct connection to what we will be learning in the BVI. Tides are something that happen 4 times a day: two low tides and two high tides which happen every 6 hours. We also learned about currents in the ocean and rip tides. Hopefully, we won’t have to deal with rip tides in the BVI because they can be very dangerous if you swim against them. Waves are also very important to marine ecosystems because they shape the shore and we learned how to measure the height of a wave. To do this, we have to find the difference between the trough and the crest.
