So today would be my second day of my Marine Biology course here at Jesuit. Today we discussed the articles we had read the night before. What I found most interesting was that the first article, which discussed the migration of certain species of fish due to climate change, was more of a research article as opposed to the second article (which was more of an overview of several published research articles. The second one was, as a result, easier to understand (had we not mentioned the difference between the two, I would never have realized it). We also discussed the several areas within marine biology and how each studies and operates different in a different manner. For example, marine biologists might study animals but one may specialize in mammals while another may specialize in fish. Another thing that I found interesting and never fully realized before was that biologists go into a study with a question to answer. The first article we read didn’t have a question included in the texts but we could discern that, through the data and evidence being gathered, the scientists where obviously posing the question on whether global warming was causing specific species to migrate from the changing temperatures in their normal range.
P.S., as of today I have officially gotten the hang of using this iPad! Success!
