The Fourth and Fifth Day

1

Saturday and Sunday were both pretty fun, but I liked Sunday a lot more. Saturday we harvested coral for replanting and we planted it. The planting of said coral was actually quite difficult, because you had to have perfect buoyancy to be able to tie the little piece of coral to the spot we were planting them on. You also had to be super careful to not cut yourself on the piece of coral you were planting. I, unfortunately, cut my finger on a piece of coral, but it didn’t bleed to badly. But after we had finished planting coral, we went back to our huts and waited for awhile. After about an hour, we went to mass on top of a little hill. It was a really awesome view from the chapel. After mass was finished, we went to the beach for a cookout and a night snorkel. The food was good and the night snorkel was really cool because we saw a lot of things we wouldn’t see in the day time. We saw squid and octopi, and a few other things. After that, we went to sleep pretty early, because we had a huge day on Sunday. On Sunday, we woke up and went to the marina to have breakfast. After breakfast was over, we got onto our boats and went to our dive site. We dove the wreck of the RMS Rhone, a mail ship that sunk off the coast of Salt Island in 1867 because of a hurricane. The dive site was fantastic because we saw the actual ship and all of the life that has taken it over. The highlights of the day were swimming with a hawksbill turtle about five feet away from me, seeing our first live lionfish, and swimming through the wreck. It was quite a fantastic morning, but that wasn’t even the whole day. We then went to Cooper Island for lunch, which was the best fish and chips I have ever had, and we then snorkeled the sea grass beds near our lunch spot. We saw lots of turtles and a few barracuda, but that was really it. The dive was definitely my favorite part of the day, and my favorite part of the trip. All in all, it was a very good two days, and I am sad to see the trip end.
