The day started out with breakfast and a presentation about the different types of sea turtles we can find in the BVI. It was a brief, yet very informative presentation by Dr. Shannon Gore. After the presentation was finished, we went to Savannah Bay to snorkel and learn about different types of invertebrates. It was both a fun and interesting excursion, and I gained a lot of knowledge about the different types of invertebrates that live here. After we had finished that portion of the day, we went to the marina for lunch. The meal consisted of hamburgers and fries, and it was quite delicious. Both the burger and the fries were very good, and very satisfying. After we had finished lunch, we hopped on to the boat and went out to where we could find turtles to be tagged. When we got to shallower waters, we were able to be towed behind the boat to be able to see turtles better. When I was behind the boat, we couldn’t find anything, but immediately after I had gotten back onto the boat the group after myself spotted a turtle. So I jumped back into the water, and we all chased this little turtle around for about 30 minutes, but we couldn’t capture it. A few hundred yards away from us, though, as a group that did capture a turtle and once we all had gotten back on the boat, we started taking information from it. Once we had taken all of the measurements from the turtle, we inserted a small tag next to it’s head, and then we let it back into the ocean. It was definitely a really awesome experience, and I am glad I got to be a part of it. All in all, today was an awesome day and it was probably the best day so far.
