Last night a group of guys engaged in a large game of poker. The game consisted of Jeff, Buck, Chris, Tucker, Matt, Nick, Gavin, and I. Everyone got very into the game. It was tons of fun. We enjoyed a great night. After returning to our cabin, Chris, Buck, and I continued playing poker. This game carried on until the teachers came and told us to go to bed. Before bed the three of us went through a rigorous workout. Off to bed we went and colorful dreams of the next day ran through our minds.
Once again we were awoken by Doc at 7:20. First today we had a wonderful breakfast preceded by a quick taxi to the boat and off to our first site of the day. During our first activity, we cayaked around the mangrove system and snorkeled aswell. We saw a very different and distinct group of organisms here. I saw an eel, a string ray, a lionfish, and many other small fish. Seeing a brand new environment that fish live in was awesome. After we finished all of that, we held a quick volleyball game, then off to lunch where we indulged on l delicious lunch meat and other snacks.
After lunch we then listened to Dr. Gore while she spoke on the history or corals. She gave a wonderful explanation of what has happened from millions of years ago to today. Following her presentation we then jumped onto the boat and took off toward our dive destination.
During this dive our objective was to kill eliminate lionfish. Lionfish are an invasive specie that take away many of the fish and create an inbalance in the ecosystem. Although we did not actually find any lionfish, we saw a spotted moray eel along with many other awesome fish. This was the first time I was able to use my underwater camera on a dive, and it was awesome. This dive was a 45 minute dive around 55 feet. After the 45 minutes was up, Buck was chilling on 0 air. He did not seem too concerned about this; he never is too concerned about anything. As his air was certainly coming to a close, he just remained floating with no worries. We soon ascended to the surface and everything was fine thankfully.
After heading back to the good ol’ cabin, jasmine, we showered up and got ready for dinner. Then we sprayed mosquito killer all over our cabin in hopes that all the little annoying critters would be gone for good. We then enjoyed a wonderful dinner of pasta salad and sandwiches. Once done with that I treated myself to a cool root beer float. Now I will soon be off to bed ready for another fascinating day.
