Today is my last blog for this class, since we are heading home to Dallas. We didn’t write a blog yesterday night so that we could have time to pack. However, since our flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Dallas is delayed, I figured I would write one anyway and post it when I get home.
Yesterday we woke up, and Casey brought us breakfast, which we ate outside our cabins. We then walked a pretty far distance down main street to a long wall with many well drawn paintings. There were about 10 different murals that were painted by different artists on sections of the wall. The images consisted of landscapes, maps, bible quotes, and places around Virgin Gorda. We were used to seeing the paintings every day on our way to the marina. That day, we would paint a part of the wall, that had nothing on it, as well as the base of four large cement squares, which held soil and plants that the students from the previous week filled. This would be a sort of community service project for the day. Me, Bennett, Franny, and Ceasar painted one of the large cement pots green, and three other groups painted theirs blue yellow and white. Some of us also started painting our large class mural on the wall as well, while others touched up the chipped off paint on the other murals. We then ate a snack, and after a few hours it started to rain so we packed up and headed back to our cabins. All of us had the rest of the day free to go to the concessions / lounge and to the beach. Me, Bennett, and Franny swam around in the ocean, and the rest of the class eventually joined us at the beach, where we stayed until we had to leave for dinner. Dinner was at a fancy restaurant overlooking the ocean and the sunset. Jeff, Casey, Brian, and Laura joined us, and we ate. afterwards, Laura and Casey showed us all the pictures and videos they took throughout the week. We all also got a flash drive that had most of the pictures in the sideshow, which was good because I don’t take that many pictures myself. Afterwards we all said goodbye and headed back to the cabin to pack. We finished quickly and we were all in bed by 10, since we had to get up at 4:30 the next day, which is today.
Today, well, we got up, left to the docks, and Jeff and Casey took us all to Beef Island. We watched the sun rise as we traveled on the boat, and everyone said goodbye again and left for the airport. I slept all the way through the first flight to Puerto Rico, and we traveled to our gate for our four-hour flight, which is delayed until around 9:00. So, now I am caught up to the present with nothing left to say except thank you to the Dive BVI team and Mr. Kirby, Nevitt, and Gruninger for a great week.
Also, since there was no internet, I passed some of the time each night by drawing pictures over that specific day, on Notability (an app meant for notes). I figured I should post them as today’s final Blog images.
