Today we went over four group articles that talked about major issues for marine life. We were asked to write our thought over the articles.
During the Article C discussion I learned that Eco tourism is essentially tourism to undisturbed ecosystems, and although it has economic benefits, Eco tourism is harmful to the habitats from careless pollution. However, I learned the most prominent negative effects are from illegal hunting, which made me realize that to solve this problem the government should more strictly enforce regulations.
During the Article D discussion I learned that invasive species not only harm native species, but they also have a major negative effect on human health and marine industries. A majority of invasive species are accidentally carried by the hull and ballasts of commercial shipping; thus, since the invasive species situation is getting worse, all governments should start submitting bills to address and enforce international species control.
During the article E discussion I learned that artificial reefs need to be utilized near the Florida Keys area in order to increase and maintain the habitats biodiversity. Artificial reefs can support as many populations as natural reefs, and governments need to take advantage of these reefs to help the development of marine life.
During the Group Fâs article discussion i learned that there are two types of oil spills, regular oil spills that you hear about in the news and chronic oil spills that occur frequently and they are not getting attention. This problem is largely affecting the marine life in infecting the waters and killing off birds such as seagulls, which are a very good indicator of undocumented oil spills due to their location on the water that allows for easy documentation.
