Final day of diving here in the BVI

4

Final day of diving was today and it was a good one. Today was not just any ordinary dive; today we actually cut off and saved different corals that were in danger of dying and re-planted them in places where they could survive. The two types of coral we planted were Staghorn coral and Elkhorn coral, both of which are apart of the soft coral group. To complete the task of replanting, we first scoped out the area by snorkeling around. We tried finding places where the root of the stagorn or elkhorn were bleached or algae had grown over it. After the snorkel we geared up and dove in. Casey had explained to us how to cut the coral. We used a two pound weight to chop off certain places of the coral. Our group found 15 coral pieces all of which were staghorn. After collecting all of the coral we took an hour break and ate lunch. Lunch was payed out for us and we could make our own sandwiches. I ate a turkey and cheese sandwich with the perfect amount of yellow mustard on it. I was stuffed. After lunch we geared up once more and our last time here in the BVI. It was a sad moment knowing that it was coming to an end but there was still work to do. We had to save these coral. My group of Jeff, Joe, Guy, Casey, and I successfully planted all 15 coral pieces in places where they can flourish. We saved some lives today, it was sweet. We returned to the marina where we had to say goodbye to our great boats. These boats where amazing they got us in and out of each island and site that we visited plus the great captains in Casey and Jeff. We then drove back to our places where we showered up and got to hang out for awhile before heading back to Mad Dogs for our final meal there. This place is great it gives a place where we can hang out, eat, and play games with each other. It gives me a nice home feeling. Tonight’s meal was filled with macaroni and cheese, my favorite, and some delicious wraps. Tonight’s wraps were all different, one filled with turkey, another filled with ham, and the other a BLT. It was delightful. Tonight I will head back to the room filled with sadness, for it is the last time I will sleep in this bed. It has been a great trip and I am super ready to have a free afternoon where I will probably hanging on the beach working on my tan. The trip went by so fast I barely had time to blink. All in all it was a great trip and now I am ready to get back to big D.
