Today started early, roughly 8:00 pm, which was hard enough before including the fact that none of us got to bed until about 2 in the morning. I got up, put up my swim suit as well as a t shirt then waited for my roommates Sean Lyden, Alex Dieste, Andrew Chittoor, and Caesar Garcia to be ready. I know all of them from school and various activities except for Caesar who I met during my dive certification. When we were all ready, we walked down to the main entrance and waited for our taxi to take is to breakfast. Our breakfast was pretty good and consisted of bagels, toast, fruit, eggs, sausage, and hash browns. We ate then proceeded to be introduced to the different instructors. I am working with Laura from England, and Jeff from Texas on the boat sea monkey. The other instructor on the boat, sea dragon, is Brian from ireland. After going through our itinerary and different rules and procedures, we ate lunch then headed down to the water for our first dive of the trip. The boat was driven about 15 minutes out to sea to valley trunk where we dropped anchor and hopped in. I was with Laura along with 3 other people including my dive partner, Andrew. We swam around and looked at marine life for 40 minutes on the dot and just did some basic fish identification. The coolest fish we saw were the honeycomb cow fish and the squirrel fish. We got out and drove to shore where we all watched jeff dissect a lion fish he caught with his group. We then returned to the cabins showered, and passed the time before dinner by throwing around a frisbee Seam had brought. We walked a little was down the main road to to a place called mad dogs and ate pizza and drank root beer floats. After an hour or so of eating and playing various games, we watched two groups respective videos about global warming and invasive species. Global warming you have heard of but you may not have heard what an invasive species is. An invasive species is an organism that is artificially introduced into an Eco system and messes with the balance. This can have effects such as species extinction and loss of jobs that deal with the ocean life. After watching the videos, we walked back to the cabins and went to the common area where we updated our blogs. Attached is a picture of me watching the lion fish dissection. After this I will sat up for a bit, then go to bed. I will update this blog again tomorrow, goodbye!
