Squirming out of bed for another jam packed day, I had to recollect my thoughts before leaving our hut. You see, today was different, I didn’t need my swimsuit. Yeah I said it, a day in the British Virgin Islands with no swimsuit. I know I know it’s disappointing but trust me, it was totally worth it. At this early hour, we usually according to schedule would meet my boy Glen at the taxi drop off; however, the group and I walked about 15 minutes down the road to a school to do some community service work. I personally filled up barrels with dirt to fill these huge pots in order to plant new coconut trees. After that, we painted the walls behind the pots which face the road. We painted the walls a solid white color to provide a baseline for the Jesuit group coming the following week. Nothing better than a little sweat with your Jesuit brothers. You may ask me, hey Matt, did you meet a new best friend today? Hah you bet i did! His name is Kyle. Kyle helped manage us today during our service work. We made fun of each other and constantly rambled back and forth who would win in a fight. Although the fight didn’t take place, I made my point. After saying goodbye to Kyle and the locals, Mr. Kirby and Doc lead us about 20 minutes the complete opposite direction for lunch at mad dogs. I had a delicious turkey club with the best in the world root beer float. Returning to our huts, I finally came to that point in the day where the swimsuit came on and we headed to the baths. The baths are one of Virgin Gorda’s best site seeing locations. Historically, the baths were a place in the Caribbean where sailors could bring their slaves to “wash up” or “bathe” before being put up for sale. The Baths are volcanic rock/marble that are constantly flushed with water. Casey led us on a 15 minute walked through these volcanic rock and briefed us about the formation of the rocks as well. It isn’t until now that I could see the light creeping thought the rock. Before I knew, the most beautiful beach ever was at my feet. We put on our snorkeling gear and snorkeled on back to our beach where we had a cookout and watched the stars as the night folded before our eyes.
