To a very unlikely surprise, my roommates and I didn’t wake up to chickens crowing at the top of their lungs. Instead, we woke up to a light tropical rain which sent us scurrying to our porches to gather our clothes from the previous day. As usual, the crew and I walked down to the curb at 8am to meet the taxi to take us to breakfast. At breakfast, we had some delicious pineapple, banana bread, ham, and BACON. After breakfast, Laura (one of the DVI staff) led the group and I into a fish/coral identification class session in order to prepare us for the upcoming day. We went through a myriad of coral and types of fish before heading out to Savannah Bay. Savannah Bay provide the group a chance to explore the coral via snorkeling. Here, I encountered the whitest sand and bluest water I’ve ever set eyes on. Swimming about 50 yards out from the beach, Tanner Davis and I saw multiple anglefish, groupers, crabs, fire coral, lizard fish, sea urchins, and a STINGRAY! Taking a break from all the fun, my friends and I returned to shore only to find a wonderful lunch on the beach provided for us by the DVI staff. This lunch included a ham sandwich with some chips and some water. Next, Tanner, Will, Julian, Joe, and Drew played some ultimate frisbee on the beach until it was time to leave Savannah Bay and head on over to the Dive BVI shop to prepare for our second dive. It was about a 15 minute boat ride out to the “Chimney,” my group entered the water for the second time. Slowly descending into the water, could already see numerous yellowtail snappers. Following Jeff ( the best…?), I now found myself in what seemed to be some sort crevice; furthermore, sneaking out of the dark, a Hawksbill Turtle darted out in front of us and scurried off to find protection. Just before finishing our second thrilling dive of the trip, I saw a really interesting trumpet fish. After surfacing, the group and I headed on back to Virgin Gorda. After and exciting day 2, my chaco tan has made severe progress. I promised that i would come back with a sweet chaco tan. If you do not understand what a chaco tan well…then you’re missing out. For dinner tonight, we are heading up the hill to Mad Dogs for some mexican food. I’m so hungry and cant wait for tomorrow. Nothing better than chilling on the hill with some fellow Jesuit brothers playing some hackie sack!
