Coral Conservation- Long Bay

0

Today was coral conservation day. Things kicked off with another hearty brekky of eggs, fruits, breads, and juice boxes before we headed out to Long Bay, the site of our soon to be reef. At long bay we did a snorkel reconnaissance mission to scope out some potential coral rescues. With some staghorn stalks picked out, we head back to SeaDragon, our noble vessel, to gear up for part two of our three part mission. Part two went as smooth as we could hope for and we successfully collected around 10 coral fragments to be replanted in part three. We had a solid intermission between part two and three where I indulged myself in some peanut butter and pineapple jelly sandwich and a refreshing fearless swim in the Caribbean sea. Then we armed ourselves with epoxy putty guns and zip ties and dove back down to our coral garden where we secured the staghorn after some delay with faulty putty. The trip took longer than expected so we hussled back to our huts at guava berry resort and changed into church clothes for a 7 o’clock mass in an awesome church atop a hill overlooking the harbor. A philippino pastor held a personable service in which we were his only audience, leaving us in charge of singing and reading. The view from the church was remarkable. After mass we ate lasagna back at mad dogs and I ordered a desert of brownie strawberry sundae. Yums. It was another full day in the Virgin Gorda and I’m learning a whole lot, more than I could have anticipated. The people fit into this place well
