5th Day in BVI

Today marks another 2 tank dive success. We met at the marina again and ate breakfast in the Dive BVI shop because of rainy conditions. We departed to our dive location which would be the same location for both dives. It was a cloudy and rainy dive but the water was still clear and we saw some some cool things. My group saw two huge spotted eagle rays which pretty much made the dive. When this dive was over we got back on the boat, ate some snacks, and changed our tanks to a full one. We then listened while Casey briefed us for our next dive. Our next dive consisted of buddy teams doing things at different times. The first buddy team set the transect line, the second did the fish identification, the third counted invertebrates, the fourth located signs of bleaching and the percent of algae cover, and the last buddy team picked up the transect line. Brody and I had the job of doing the fish identification. At first Brody and I were really nervous because doing this job is kind of a big deal but then we realized that we were the right guys for the job. Brody and I descended alone and headed out to the beginning of the transect . We made eye contact and gave each other the ok. We saw a wide variety of fish like the blue tang, foureye butterflyfish, banded butterfly fish yellowtail damselfish, sergeant major, smooth trunkfish, blue striped grunt, stoplight parrotfish, yellowtail snapper, and a trumpetfish. The end of the transect line marked the end of our fish counting so Brody and I peeled off left and headed back for the boat. We ascended, got back on the boat and talked to Casey about our dive and what we saw. When everyone finished their assignments we headed back to the marina for lunch. We had sandwiches, chips, and french fries. Lunch ended and our “final exam” began. Our final exam consisted of each buddy pair answering a question in front of the whole class. Brody and I had to compare and contrast artificial reefs to natural reefs. This question required some thought but Brody and I nailed it. When all the other buddy teams were finished answering there questions we headed out to the taxi which brought us back to guavaberry where we are right now until we head to mad dog’s for dinner.
