Day 4 Cayman Islands

Today was an extremely filled and fun day. We started with 2 amazing dives as usual, went to a turtle farm, and did a night snorkel.

The two dives was Big Dipper and Chain Reef. These dives were very unique in that the first one was about 100 feet down with massive coral walls similar to yesterday’s dive and the second one was shallow with a lot of sand and chunks of massive rock like reefs. The two notable things I saw on the dives was a lion fish and a black grouper. Black groupers can be identified with the black rectangular splotches covering its body. These fish start out mainly female and transform into males as they get older and can get up to about 40 pounds but the world record is 113 pounds. The other fish I saw was a lion fish. This fish is extremely invasive and destroys the ecosystem. It is extremely venomous and has knife like fins sticking out on all sides of its body. Daddio-Jenkins was once poked by these harmful spines.

The turtle farm was really fun due to the wide variety of turtle shown. There were lots of green and hawksbill turtles. You can identify them by their prefrontal scales and a hawksbill turtle has a very jagged rear shell with a beak like mouth.

The snorkel was really fun and I saw a massive lobster and two squids. Tomorrow i am really excited for the 3 dives including stingray city.
