Day 4 in the Caymans

We encountered a very similar day today compared to the others. On the boat and out to the site all before about 8:30. Our first dive was at Big Dipper where I reached the depth of 100 feet for the first time! It is a beautiful reef made up of coral fingers like those in the Big Tunnel dive. We saw many fish such as four eyed butterfly fish, and different colored wrasse fish. This was a very interesting dive and very similar to the Big Tunnel dive.

The second dive was by far my favorite so far this trip. Although max depth was only about 50 feet, it was one of the coolest experiences I have ever had. I saw more fish than I ever have in my life. I got to see multiple trumpet fish, a hogfish, a tarpon, and a squirrelfish. These fish and coral were amazing to witness in real life in their natural habitat after only seeing them in pictures. Being able to sit down on the sea floor was also a really cool experience. You felt way more up close and personal with the marine life than the other dives. Also we got some very cool pictures on the dive, and I ended up on the profile picture for the twitter page!!

Today we also got the opportunity to go to the Grand Cayman Turtle Centre. Not only was there only turtles, but there was a nurse shark, multiple barracuda and also many Many MANY birds. We got to first see the breeding grounds for the 200+ pound sea turtles. We then got to go to the touching tanks where we got to hold the little guys. We also got to go to the fish pools and see the nurse sharks and barracuda. There was also a bird house where many different species of birds lived and we got to feed them by letting them land on us and eat from our hand. The turtle center was an amazing experience that I highly recommend.

To end the day we did a night snorkel right outside the resort. While it was pitch black in most spots, obviously, we got to see thanks to the light from our flashlights. I saw two baby squid as well as two different massive lobsters. It was honestly a surreal experience being in the ocean at night with that little sense of fear you have of the unknown.
All in all it was another solid and long day on the island, and I am more than excited to experience sting ray city tomorrow and the other dives we have planned throughout the day.
