Day 4

0

Today was an extremely good day. The Zodiac boat was not only fast and exhilarating but it also allowed us to see things that otherwise would be difficult to spot. From seeing short fin pilot whales to swimming with spinner dolphins, the Zodiac tour was absolutely amazing. The manta dive was everything one could dream of, to look up and see these 10 foot creatures soaring above your head and then to have one of their fins come across and slap you in the face, it leaves you speechless and wide eyed.

Three points

First, we learned about the history of a rock formation during our Zodiac tour, which resembled a face, meant to be the face of the Hawaiian Goddess of the sea. Next we learned about the short fin pilot whales which we saw while on the Zodiac Tour, we learned about how the babies will sometimes have floppy dorsal fins because it actually takes them up to 72 hours to fully form the cartilage in their fins. We also learned about how they could grow up to 18 feet, and how one large bull is the leader of the pack. Lastly, we learned about the crown of thorns starfish, which eats coral and can damage reefs, we learned through watching our dive master that you can’t kill these starfish yourselves, but you can leave them in places that make them vulnerable to predators, like under rocks, which allows predators to easily eat them and destroy them.

Looking forward to

The black water dive, it will be cosmic and absolutely breathtaking. I physically cannot wait I am so excited for it.
