Three points for today:
Where to begin? I guess I should start by releasing my inner 5 year old and saw “WE SAW A SHARK!!”. That was absolutely amazing, while diving our first dive, we went into a small little cubbyhole in the rocks and sitting there was a white tip reef shark, a member of the cartilaginous species. Secondly, listening to Josh, our black water diving photographer present his pictures and speak of the near cosmic atmosphere of black water diving was absolutely mind blowing. To see and also finally grasp the fact that we will be diving in water that goes to around 8,000 ft in depth and the fact that we will be surrounded by creatures from this unknown abyss, honestly takes my breath away. To think of myself in the pelagic zone, a small part in a vast majority of our planet, it’s mind boggling, and also thought evoking. The third point that I would like to recall from today is learning about the geology of Hawaii during the presentations and while diving, like learning about the lava tubes formed from lava cooling from the outside in, leaving tubular caves. I also enjoyed learning about how Hawaii is one of the few places in the US where traveling to the pelagic zone is only a few miles off shore.
What am I looking forward to?
This may be a complete cliche but honestly, the manta ray dive. I mean I cannot even fathom how crazy awesome looking up and seeing 16ft manta rays soaring over us will be. So yeah honestly I’m extremely excited for that.
