Today was probably my favorite day of class so far. We started out class discussing and filling outa worksheet about the two articles we read last night. The first discussion was led by Rob and Nick Dell. This article was about the mimic octopus and a species of oyster that has a very strong adhesion technique. It was very interesting to find out that the mimic octopus can actually flatten itself out to look like a flounder and it also knows how to make it look like a sea snake.
The second part of the class was spent in the lab dissection a perch and a Dogfish shark. I dissected the perch and my partner Paul did the Dogfish shark. This was very interesting and I can see how this will be very important once we get to the BVI when we are studying the lion fish and other fish and they have certain adaptations. We might be able to find what speciesmit inherited this trait from or if it was a learned trait.
