Day 6 Blog

Our final full day in the BVI began with a routine breakfast at the chaperones' cabin in anticipation of the service project that was to occur directly afterward. However, as I had woken up with a slightly unsettled stomach, I took only an apple and some fruit juice. The service project was to take place at the Bregado Flax Educational Centre, located only a few minutes distance from the resort by foot. We briskly made the journey from the resort to the school and almost immediately got to work. The tasks we were asked to perform ranged from landscaping and general beautification procedures to shoveling gravel and erecting fence posts. The work was incredibly taxing, and after about an hour, my physical condition had deteriorated to the point that I could no longer work effectively. I became violently sick and had to be placed in an air conditioned room until the end of the project. Thankfully, I recovered fairly quickly, and was able to join the rest of the group for lunch and a brief shopping period at the marina. Following the shopping, we returned to the resort for a few hours, which I used to sleep off the residual effects of my sickness. After a solid 3 hours of pure, unadulterated sleep, it was time for group presentations. Our group went last, and gave a performance for the ages, an assessment that the dive staff and chaperones would certainly corroborate. For our final act, we went to dinner at a beachside restaurant to celebrate the trip. The meal provided was fantastic, and afterwards we watched a compilation of photos from all of the week's activities and said our final goodbyes to the dive staff. As difficult as this was, and as much as I enjoyed my time on Virgin Gorda, I look forward to going back home.
