Day 4 Blog

Today began very early, as the members of my cabin (The Glorious Lime House) were tasked with providing breakfast for the other people on the trip. To celebrate our mind-blowing awesomeness, we made the cereal boxes spell out "lime time," which did not attract as much recognition as it deserved. Unlike the previous 3 days, today did not feature any dives. Instead, we conducted an invertebrate snorkel in the morning, which was leaps and bounds more interesting than we anticipated. The endeavor yielded such treasures as four giant hermit crabs, several lettuce slugs, a handful of miniature hermit crabs, a pair of peppermint shrimp, an upside down jellyfish, and a Caribbean Reef Octopus that the terrific triumvirate consisting of myself, Zach, and Dawson managed to apprehend. After marveling at the day's catch for a brief while, we returned to the marina for lunch, which again consisted of sandwiches. Following the meal, we traveled to Little Dix Bay to make an attempt at catching sea turtles. Unlike last year, however, we were only able to attempt catching one. In an attempt to bolster our chances, the decision was made to tow us around the bay in hope of spotting a turtle underneath us. I personally was able to locate one, but the ensuing chase proved fruitless and we were forced to return to the marina empty handed. Following some down time, we ate dinner and watched a documentary about coral bleaching, which did nothing to alleviate the frustration of not catching a turtle. Tomorrow, however, we will have the opportunity to dive on the wreck of the Kodiak Queen, and snorkel in the mangroves, which was one of the highlights of last year's trip, and I look forward to participating in both of these activities.
