Day 6- Pier
Like any typical morning here, waking up at 6:30, and eating breakfast at 7:00. Since the waves were very choppy at our resort, we took a bus instead and went to another dock. Kittiwake, our first location, was about 5 minutes away from the dock.
Kittiwake is the name of a ship that sunk very close to 7 mile beach....
Nash Crawford: Day 6
On the fifth day of dives, the group and I were traveling to the Kittiwake Ship Wreck. Kittiwake's story is a interesting one. The ship was first set sail on July 10th, 1945. The vessel served as sub rescue ship. Interesting enough, during its service time, the USS Kittiwake destroyed and saved one submarine. Coincidentally, the destroyed sub was...
Day 6 Cayman Islands
Today, our morning was like all the rest once again. We woke up at 6:30, breakfast at 7:00, and on the bus by 7:45 to drive to the dock to board the boat. Both of the dives included a mix of a ship wreck, coral, and marine life. We were all extremely excited for today as we got to...
Luke Austin- Day 6: Two Boat Wrecks, One Diver
Jesuit Marine Biology awakes at 7:00 A.M. to the beautiful morning in the Caribbean. We ate a delicious breakfast of sausage and eggs then promptly left at 7:30 A.M. for the docks where the trusty boat Twin Sister was moored and our dive masters and captains Bernie and Curtis were waiting to take us diving. We boarded then prepared...
Sam Sudderth Day 6: Kittiwake
Following a great night of blogging, we woke up this morning and got ready for our second to last day of diving. We ate some grub and got ready for our first dive. The first dive sight was at the shipwreck of the ex-USS Kittiwake, a 251 boat. It was commissioned from the 1940's to the 1990's and it...
Cayman Islands: Day 6
Like all the other days, Day 6 started at 7 o'clock in the morning when we atebreakfast. Shortly after, we loaded up onto the buses and drove to the dock. I was very excited for our first morning dive which was a dive around the USS Kittiwake.
Arriving at the dive site, I noticed many boats on the surface. This...
Day 6 on the Grand Cayman Island
Per usual we ate breakfast, and then set sail for the Kittiwake shipwreck. The USS Kittiwake was a Naval submarine rescue vessel that was commissioned in 1946 and was decommissioned in 1994. It was the ship that recovered the Challenger Space Shuttle's black box. It was sunk off the coast of West Bay in 2011 where it serves as...
Day 6
Today started similar to the other days of the week with me waking up to an alarm at 6:30 before heading to breakfast at 7. After a fairly small breakfast of cereal, we were bussed to the second dock on a different part of the island where weather conditioned were deemed better. Once we entered on the boat, we...
Day 6 in the Grand Caymans (7/18/19)
Today we woke up early and had a nutritious breakfast before heading out to two different shipwrecks: Kittiwake Wreck and the Doc Paulson. Both sites were really cool, and it was very interesting to see the levels of algae and coral growth on them.
The USS Kittiwake was first commissioned in 1946, and it was used as a Chanticleer-class submarine...
