Failure to Identify Results in Failure

Waking up when you are supposed to be ready to leave is not a good way to start the day, but that is what I did this morning. Again, not a great way to start the day. However, we quickly headed to a hearty breakfast consisting of cereal, bread, yogurt, and some apples. Definitely a good start...

The First Day of Slaughter(I’m told “day 1” wouldn’t be original enough)

The day began in a peaceful fashion, with the blaring combination of alarms and guys yelling to wake up. As I arose, jolted from my slumber, I had little time to wash my face, throw on my clothes, eat some Reese's Peanut Butter CupsTM,, and walk to the front of Guava Berry. Once everyone was accounted for, we were...

Turtles, Turtles, and more Turtles

I woke up at the same time as yesterday and the morning routine in the cabin was also the same. Breakfast was great, and we learned a bit about turtles (mainly loggerheads, green, and hawksbill) and their characteristics by Dr. Gore. After breakfast our boat groups broke up and Sea Dragon went to catch turtles and Sea Monkey went...

Day 5 and 6: The replanting of the coral and diving of the Rhone.

I am going to be writing over two days so it might be a little long. Yesterday we woke up and had a 8 o'clock bus to catch to the marina for a full day of diving. The dive was where wewere going to find coral fragments to plant. We found six pieces almost immediately and we were...

Day 3: A journey into the baths

After playing a couple card games last night we all went to bed. The wake up call this morning was a little too early after a day of diving but everyone was ready to start the day in the baths. The baths, an area of broken apart rocks that form caverns, were beautiful with plenty of fish swimming everywhere...

I joined marine biology so i could learn more about the life i see under the water. I have done more than 25 dives and have registered over 18 hours underwater. I am certified in open water and peak performance buoyancy. I am looking forward to studying the marine life inthe BVI.

Day 4: the runaway turtle

My entire case woke up at 7 dead to the but excited to go turtle tagging. We listened to an interesting history of sea turtles and also how to catch and release the turtles by Dr. Gore. The sea dragons got to go first for sea turtle tagging. Right as we pulled out of the bay we saw three...

BVI days 4-5: Night and Day

The day began with a hearty breakfast of cereal and granola bars, after which we loaded up the boat and headed out to Jesuit Reef for our day of coral planting. First we had to scout out some areas of coral to fragment and replant in our reef. We looked for bleached coral, preferably separated from the rest of...

Day One: “I Become a Chimney Sweep”

I Become a Chimney Sweep By Alex Magee Yesterday... We arrived at Virgin Gorda at night and went to bed, only after eating microwaved macaroni and cheese and granola bars. (I only microwaved the macaroni and cheese, not the granola bars...) Today... I woke up at about 6:15 to hundreds of mosquito bites on my legs, which is a very itchy way to...
