Marine Biology- day 5

0

Today in class we learned about oceanic levels, organisms, and the role of viruses in the water. The levels in the ocean arearranged based on depth and amount of life. Photosynthetic organisms live near the suface because there is more sunlight for the organisms to convert into energy. The other organisms will live deeper in the water. Secondly, we learned about plankton and the groups of plankton. The two groups are phytoplankton “plant like” and zooplankton “animal life”. The phytoplankton are a major producer for countless other marine organisms. Finally, we learned how viruses are a major asset in the ocean. These viruses can lyse, or cause to explode, many harmful bacterias in the ocean. This all relates to marine biology because if we know ocean layers, we will be able to know where to locate certain organisms such as a lion fish. If we kniw about plankton and the classes we will be able to see significant increases or decreases of nutrients in the water. Understanding viruses role in the ocean is a benifit because we can maybe use these viruses as cures for some tumors because they can lyse the cells building up in our body.
