I hate to go and leave this pretty sight! Today was the last full day of the BVI portion of our Marine Biology course. While it only lasted a week, it felt like it’s been months. Today, as mentioned yesterday, was our community service day. We did an assortment of jobs around the boathouse including painting, washing life jackets, scrubbing rescue boats, practicing CPR, and so forth.
We then had lunch on the beach followed by a final snorkel. I spotted a couple of flounders, Christmas tree worms, urchins, trumpetfish, a box fish, and things that I think were fireworms. It was a rather relaxing experience.
We went to Mass at a church (I think it was named St. Ursula) on top of a hill. It was there where we learned that the legend of St. Ursula and the 11,000 virgins who passed through the islands probably only consisted of eleven virgins. Afterwards, we celebrated a sort of last supper with the staff at a restaurant called the Mine Shaft. We were given certificates for our reef check and peek-performance buoyancy during our meal along with a powerpoint presentation with pictures taken throughout the trip. When we finished our meal, we took some final group photos and returned back to the hotel for a movie.
It has been a wonderful experience and I thank everyone who helped make this possible! Now, we prepare for an early wake-up and flight back home to Texas.
