Day 1 Blog

1

This morning, I was awakened by the annoyingly loud screech of a rooster. While under ordinary circumstances I would be none too thrilled about this premature start to the day, but due to the island's outstanding beauty, I relished the opportunity to soak in as much as possible. We promptly ate breakfast and made our way to the marina, courtesy of Glenn, our lorry driver. We then assembled our gear and set out for our first dive site, a nice sandy patch close to one of the Dog Islands. The dive was mostly an uneventful refresher, although we did see a small spotted moray towards the end. The second dive was much more eventful, and provided such majestic sights as a nurse shark, a larger moray eel, a miniature bar jack feeding frenzy, a Nassau grouper, a Caribbean reef octopus, a massive dog snapper, and a queen angelfish, one of the most beautiful creatures in the ocean. After some down time, we attended mass at the local church, where I was given the opportunity to read in a Catholic mass for the first time. Although I will probably not convert, the experience is something I will cherish for a long time. Overall, I would say that the first day was a decisive success. Let's hope the second day is comparable.
