Day 1 in BVI

    Nicholas Slayton,

Last night, I didn’t get much sleep, so in the morning, I was quite tired. After breakfast, the group went down to the Dive BVI shop, and got kitted out for our two dives. On our boat, there was Mr. Vonn, Mr. Zoltan, Ms. Tara, and Ms. Becca, as well as my group, Trip, Tyler, and Matthew, along with other seniors. The first dive was at Bronco Billy, and it was largely a practice dive. I was able to perform all actions such as removing a mask flood, and taking out my regulator. Throughout the dive however, my right eye was throbbing, and it was quite painful. The rest of the dive was uneventful, and I didn’t see much else of note. The next dive, we went to the Chimneys, which are thusly named because from a birds eye view, the location looks like a chimney stack. During that dive, we encountered a shark, which was unfortunately under a rock, and an octopus, which I mistook for a rock. Maybe the coolest experience was when I swam into hundreds of minnows, and they swam around me making for a neat photo. Again, my right eye felt watery, but as the dive went on, the sensation eased. After we came up, the group sat on the boat and sunbathed, and I happened to get burned quite badly. My eyes were fine though, and I throughly enjoyed the two dives that we did for the day. After coming back, we disembarked from the boat, and ate a nice lunch that consisted of a ham and cheese sandwich with lemonade. Then, we came back to the Guava resort where we rested for an hour and showered. At 3, my group presented to Zoltan about our project, which is about how algae effects coral reef health. We presented for a good hour, and we changed a few things about our project, and came out better in the end. Once done, we went to a Catholic as a full group, and the priest held a mass for Jesuit only. I read out a Letter from Paul to Romans for the mass. Finally, we ate dinner, and slept, so that tomorrow would be a good day.
