Taking a giant stride off the boat, I immediately regained the lost knowledge of scuba diving. Descending into the cooling water, we (Garrett, Johnathon, Cole, and I) looked around at the coral and fish. After a bit of swimming we found a sandy area to kneel down and practice some essential scuba skills. After we finished practicing the skills, we swam around looking and identifying different fish. One of my group leaders was attacked by floating bits of fire coral. After we came up and took off our gear, we traveled to the second dive location. The second location was off the shore of Great Dog Island. The island is called that because the settlers heard barking coming from the island. The settlers heard the dogs had rabies, so they did not claim it. Later Christopher Columbus and Sir Francis Drake came to the island and heard the barking. When they took the rowboats towards the island Monk seals would come up and greet the boats. The people were at sea for months on end and were tired of having dried and rotten food, so they killed the seals and used the skin. They people enjoyed the meat so much that the Monk Seals went extinct. After the history lesson our captain gave us, we jumped in the water and submerged. Traveling to a sunken plane, we saw an individual barracuda. Swimming into the plane, I looked into the rusty and dismembered cockpit. Traveling down the aisle of the plane, all of the overhead storage areas were thriving ecosystems. After seeing the plane, we went back towards the boat and in the distance we saw a reef shark. My favorite fish we saw was a Blue Tang. The strangest fish was the Trumpet Fish. Getting back on the boat, we started heading back to shore.
