Day 6.

1

We had to scrape a little bit of food this morning because we were eating the leftovers from all of the breakfasts throughout the week.  I had a nutritious honeybun, a nature valley bar, and a yogurt.  I say at the same spot as yesterday and enjoyed the view n and talked to Owen.  The goal of the day was to dye service at the only public highschool on Virgin Gorda and then present our project to all of the dive instructors and teachers.  At 7:45 we met at the cattle guard and walked up to the school.  There, we met the volunteers from Unite BVI.  Unite BVI is a non-profit organization founded by Richard Branson.  The nonprofit’s goal is to create more funding for the school as well as changing unfair laws.  They were the organization that was responsible for the sinking of the Kodiac Queen.  We were going to work on creating the landscape around a new trailer that would serve as their library and computer room.  My job was to shovel dirt into buckets to fill the ground for plants.  In the blazing sun, I shoveled dirt into buckets for about thirty minutes before they made me take a break.  After a short break stacking books in the library, I was back to shoveling dirt.  For the next hour I was shoveling dirt, that hour only broken up with short water breaks.  For thirty minutes, I had some help from Sloan.  For the rest of the time, I worked with Fletcher.  We had a good time hanging out with the two little kids, Charlie and will.  They were extremely fun and were always asking to help.  At 11:30 we put up our shovels and went to lunch at Bath and Turtle.  I had the quesadillas which were extremely tasty.  After we were finished eating, we headed over to the dive BVI shop.  While I did not buy anything, I enjoyed seeing all the cool dive gadgets.  When we went back to the casas, we took a nap until around three.  At three, we went to the internet room and presented our project. Our project was about the relationship between the health of staghorn coral and the fish population.  We found a positive proportion comparing fish to coral health.  I thought our presentation went really well.  After a short break, we walked up to dinner at the Top of the Baths restaurant.  It was a really good buffet consisting of baked chicken and mac and cheese.  After dinner, we watched a slideshow of all the pictures from the trip.  If we really heart warming and nice to see us having fun.  After the sideshow, we listened to some speeches from the instructors.  Some tears were shed by the counselors, but they were in good taste.  After dinner we went back and wrote or blog.

What I learned.

I learned about the history of United BVI and their goals.  I also learned about how annoying mosquitos are when you are waiting, and nervous to present a project.

What I am looking forward to.

I am looking forward to being back home in Dallas.  I am looking forward to being with my family and my bed.
