Marshall, Day 03

1

After another fierce game of monopoly and a good nights rest, House Lime Tree got up at seven this morning for an exciting day on the ocean. After breakfast at house Jasmine, we rode down to the harbor in Glen’s bus and I boarded the Sea Monkey. We did our first dive in pond bay. Our first dive was our project dive and it went really well. We used a control, a yellow, blue, and red shirt with frozen mackerel on top to see how fish react to the colors and it went swell. After the project dive, we went to a coral nursery near Jesuit reef. It was so much fun. We got to work on cleaning the coral nursery and then went on a free dive. I learned about how little holes in the sand are homes to conch shells. We also saw some big Tarpan at the end of that dive. After the dive, we went to the salt ponds on virgin Gorda and ate lunch. We ate sandwiches and chips and it really hit the spot. After lunch we snorkeled to shore and saw the salt ponds. There wasn’t any water but it was mostly moist and salty dirt. You could pick up the salt and eat it which was really cool. After we walked around the salt ponds, we snorkeled around the island for thirty minutes, saw some turtles, and then swam back to the boat. We rode back to the harbor and went back to our rooms with our groups. We all got a two hour brake to discuss our project dive and go over data. Bobby and Luke got our data on video so we reviewed the footage during the down time. After down time, we walked to the beach with our gear and ate dinner. We had burgers and chicken, which was delicious. Casey brought her dog Dixie, and she was a sweetie. Taylor and I got a cool time lapse video of the sunset during dinner. After dinner when it got dark, we started preparing for our night snorkel. The night snorkel was fun and I got to see a squid, octopus, nurse shark, lobster, and I learned how to feed brain coral krill by shining light on the brain coral to attract the krill. After the night dive, we got to shower and that was so nice considering we were super sandy and wet.
