Day 2 – Refreshments

0

After a great night of sleep in the Jasmine house, I woke up to a brisk breeze racing through the window. We got ready and then went to the teachers cabin for a pre-dive breakfast. Eventually, as everyone finished their meals, we trotted down towards commissary. There, we were briefed on the ground rules of Guavaberry and entertained by the owners very rowdy dogs. Afterwards, we went to the road and waited for Glen to pick us up and take us to the marina. We hopped on the Sea Monkey and got our diving buddies. Coincidentally, I was paired up in a group of 3 with both of my cousins, Reece and Cooper. After everything was settled, we set sail to Great Dog Island to refresh our diving skills. While diving, we saw many amazing fish, including a lionfish, juvenile spotted drum fish, and a golden-tailed eel. It was a fantastic refresher, and it got me back in the swing of things, while it also showed me the true beauty of the BVI that I had been missing for the past year. After about a 40 minute dive, we returned to the surface to rehydrate and eat snacks as we sped along towards our final dive location of the day, Coral Gardens. This dive was not a refresher, just another casual dive for our own pleasure. We saw feather duster worms, barracudas, and a spotted lobster, along with many pieces of wreckage like a deteriorated motor, and a fish traps. We got the the surface, re-boarded the boat, and headed towards Dive BVI headquarters at the marina. We then ate a delicious lunch next to some beautiful yachts. Afterwards, Glen picked us up and took us back to Guavaberry, where we had a small break followed by a walk and tour of the baths. The baths was as beautiful as I remembered from last year. I was refreshed on the history of the jaw-dropping rock formations, and given another opportunity to snorkel in the crystal clear water. While snorkeling, we saw a sting ray, flounder, and extremely large sea urchins. After arriving at the beach, we went to clean up, and them back down to the commissary to discuss our group project’s supply needs. Then, we finished the day with a lasagna dinner on the beach, where Cooper acted out a spot on Mr. Golab impression. A fitting end to a great day!
