Today I woke up at 3:30 to get ready to set out for the airport. I arrived at the airport around 4:45 and met up with my marine biology group at the gate. After going through security we were given the chance to go wander around and get breakfast from one of the restaurants around our terminal. We then boarded the plane and after a long 4 1/2 hour flight we reached San Juan international airport in Puerto Rico. Unfortunately our next flight did not take off until 5 so we had a long wait ahead of us. On the bright side during this wait I was able to buy myself a lunch and tour the San Juan airport. After the 4 hour wait was over we boarded a small island hopper with a propeller on each wing. To board the plane we were escorted on the runway and walked up a small pair of stairs into the plane. After a very short flight to Tortola we took a short walk to a dock where Casey and Jeff picked us up on their new boat the “Sea Wolf”. Once we reached Virgin Gorda we took a taxi to the Guava Berry Resort where we got settled and ate a pizza dinner where Casey, Jeff McNutt, Dr. Gruninger, and Mr. Golab talked to us about the upcoming week. Casey and Jeff were very enthusiastic and excited, which gave off a very lively vibe at dinner. Overall the entire journey to reach the BVI was fun, exciting and tiring. Now I am left looking forward to diving for the next four days. Today I was able to take in the stunning beauty of the Virgin Islands above water and I can’t wait to go dive with my peers and see what kind of scenery will be under water.
